1. There are 6 boys in a class of 11 students. A student is chosen from the class at random to be made the class monitor. What is the probability that the class monitor is a girl?

Correct Answer: (d) 5/11
Solution:

2. While traveling by bus, a man spent Rs 60 more than 10 times the fare he paid for an auto rickshaw. The total amount spent by him is 13 times the fare he paid for an auto rickshaw. What total amount of money was spent on Bus as well as Auto rickshaw by the man?

Correct Answer: (c) Rs390
Solution:Let auto rickshaw fare = Rs. x
Then, bus fare = 10x + 60
Total amount spent = 13x
Total amount = bus fare + auto rickshaw fare.
13 x = 10x + 60 +x
13 x- 10 x-x = 60
2x = 60 = x = Rs. 30
Total amount = 13x = 13x30 = Rs. 390
Or, you can directly see that the total
amount is a multiple of 13. Therefore, the
answer should also be a multiple of 13.
Only option (c) satisfies.

3. Arvind gives half of his monthly salary to his wife for household expenses. He spends Rs 2,500 on his personal expenses. The savings he manages per month is 3/7 of his monthly salary. What is Arvind's per month salary?

4. Aman has an equal number of one, five, ten and twenty rupee bank notes, to make a total of Rs1,080. How many bank notes does Aman have in total ?

Correct Answer: (b) 120
Solution:Let note of each type be xх.
Total notes = x +x+x+x = 4x.
Total amount = Rs 1080
According to question:-
x + 5x + 10x + 20x = 1080
⇒ 36x = 1080 ⇒ x = 30
Total notes = 4x = 120.

5. Train 'A' runs at a speed of 80 kmph and leaves station 'X' at 11:00 a.m. Train 'B' leaves station 'X' at 11:15 a.m. in the same direction, on the same day. At what speed train 'B' should run in order to catch train 'A' at station 'Y' located at a distance of 60 km?

Correct Answer: (b) 120 km/h

6. Which of the following options is NOT an example of a number triad with the following properties?

1. Sum of the digits of the third number is twice the sum of the digits of the first number.
2. Sum of the digits of the second number is thrice the sum of the digits of the first number.

Correct Answer: (a) (200, 600, 300)
Solution:sum of digits of first number = 2+0+0 = 2,
sum of digits of second number =6+0+0= 6,
sum of digits of third number =3+0+0 = 3

7. A person is employed by a company on a salary of Rs6,000 per month. Throughout the year, he remained absent from work for 15 days. If Rs200 gets deducted for every single holiday, then how much money will he earn at the end of the year?

Correct Answer: (b) Rs 69,000
Solution:Salary for one month = Rs. 6000
Salary for one year = 6000 x 12
= Rs. 72000
No. of leaves = 15
Amount deducted for one leave = Rs. 200
Total amount deducted in an year
= Rs. 200 ×15 = Rs. 3000
Therefore, the amount earned by him at
the end of a year = Rs. (72000 - 3000)
Rs. 69000.

8. A pipe can fill a leak-proof tank completely in 24 hours. A leakage at the midpoint of the same size tank empties half the tank in 36 hours. How much time will it take to fill this tank with the given pipe?

Correct Answer: (c) 280
Solution:Employees in IT department = 125
Employees in HR department
= 1/5 × 125 = 25
Total employees in IT and HR
department = 125 + 25 = 150
Employees in Helpdesk department
= 150- 20 = 130
Total employees in all three departments
= 150 + 130 = 280
