Total Questions: 129

1. Direction (1-5): Directions: Answer the questions based on the information given below.

The given scatter graph shows the percentage of seats occupied by male students (y-axis) out of total available seats, and number of seats that remained vacant (x-axis), on a certain day in five different engineering colleges (P, Q, R, S, and T).

Ques: In college P, if 80% of the males are present, and number of females who are absent is equal to that of males who are absent, then find the ratio of total number of students in college P to the total number of seats available in college T.

Correct Answer: (c) 28:45
Solution:

For college P
Total number of students present = 40 × 2 = 80
Total number of seats available = 80 + 80 = 160

Number of seats occupied by males = 0.4 × 160 = 64
Number of seats occupied by females = 80 - 64 = 16

Similarly,

Number of males present

Number of seats remained vacant

Total number of males in college P = 64/0.8 = 80
Number of males who are absent = 80 - 64 = 16
Therefore, number of females who are absent in college P = 16

Total number of students in college P = 80 + 16 + 16 = 112

Required ratio = 112 : 180 = 28 : 45

2. Total number of males who are present in college ‘R’ and ‘T’ together is how much percent more/less than the total number of seats available in college R?

Correct Answer: (a) 42.5%
Solution:

Number of males who are present in college R and T together = 56 + 36 = 92

Required percentage = [(160 - 92)/160] × 100
= 42.5%

3. Find the difference between the average number of females present in college ‘Q’, ‘R’ and ‘T’, and the average number of seats available in college ‘Q’ and ‘T’.

Correct Answer: (d) 150
Solution:160 – 10 = 150

4. In college ‘S’, 50% of females out of total number of females, are present. If the number of males who are absent in ‘S’ is 200% more than that of female who are absent, then find the total number of students in college ‘S’.

Correct Answer: (2) 40
Solution:In college S:
Number of females who are absent = 5
Number of males who are absent = 3 × 5 = 15
Total number of students = 15 + 15 + 5 + 5 = 40
Hence, option b.

5. In which college, the number of females present is highest?

Correct Answer: (e) ‘P’
Solution:In college P, number of females present is highest

6. Direction (Q6-10): Answer the questions based on the information given below.

The pie chart given below shows the degree (or) percentage distribution of the number of movies released by 5 different banners out of total number of movies (action + comedy) released by all the given 5 banners together which equals 12600.

The line graph given below shows the number of Action movies released as percentage of number of comedy movies released. Total number of movies released is the sum of number of comedy movies and action movies released.

Additional information:
Ratio of number of comedy movies released by Pratham and Action movies released by Mint is 3:2, respectively.

Ques:  Find the difference between number of comedy movies released by banner Roli and total number of movies released by banner Mint.

Correct Answer: (a) 310
Solution:

Let the number of comedy movies released by ‘Mint’ = ‘10x’
Then, number of action movies released by Mint = 10x × 1.2 = 12x

Let the number of comedy movies released by Pratham = ‘10y’
Then, number of action movies released by Pratham
= 10y × 0.8 = 8y

According to the data,
12x : 10y = 2 : 3
36x = 20y
So, x : y = 20 : 36 = 5 : 9

Ratio of total number of movies released by Mint to total number of movies released by Pratham = (10x + 12x) : (10y + 8y)
= 22x : 18y = 55 : 81

3q% = 3q × 3.6 = 10.8q% (Since, 1% = 3.6°)

So, 11p : (10.8p) = 55 : 81
891p = 594q
p : q = 2 : 3

We have, 11p + 10.8q + (12q + 2) + (5p + 2) × 3.6 + (15q + 8)
= 360

29p + 37.8q + 17.2 = 360
29p + 56.7p = 342.8
So, p = 342.8 ÷ 85.7 = 4

So, q = 4 × (3/2) = 6

Total number of movies released by Mint = 12600 × {(11 × 4)/360} = 1540

Similarly,

Number of comedy movies released by Mint = 1540 × (10/22) = 700

Number of action movies released by Mint = 1540 – 700 = 840

Similarly,

7. If banner Pratham had released ‘a’ more action movies, then the ratio of number of comedy movies to number of action movies, released by banner Pratham, would have been 6:5. Find the value of ‘a’.

Correct Answer: (b) 42
Solution:According to the question,
1260 : (1008 + a) = 6 : 5
Or, 1008 + a = 1260 × (5/6) = 1050
So, a = 1050 – 1008 = 42

8. The number of comedy movies released by banner Simon is how much percent more than the number comedy movies released by banner Mint?

Correct Answer: (a) 96%
Solution:

Required percentage = {(1372 – 700)/700} × 100
= 96%

9. All the comedy movies released by banner Penguin were either science based or History based where the ratio of number of sciences based to that of history based, released was 7:5. If 30% of the history based released by banner Penguin were Indian history movie, then find the number of Indian history movies that were released by banner Penguin.

Correct Answer: (b) 198
Solution:

Number of history movies released by banner Penguin
= 1584 × (5/12) = 660

Number of Indian history movie released by banner Penguin = 660 × 0.3 = 198

10. If the difference between total number of movies released by Pratham and the number of Action movies released by Simon is ‘15Z’. What is the value of total number of movies released by banner Simon?

Correct Answer: (b) 245Z
Solution:

15Z = 2268 – 2058 = 210
So, Z = 210 ÷ 15 = 14

Total number of movies released by Simon
= 3430 = 245Z
