Total Questions: 70

41. In a compound, the ratio of carbon and oxygen is 1 : 4. Find the percentage of carbon in a compound.

Correct Answer: (a) 20 %
Solution:

Ratio of carbon and oxygen = 1 : 4

Sum of the terms of ratio = 1 + 4 = 5

Percentage of carbon = (1/5) × 100

= 20%

∴ The percentage of carbon is 20%

42. Sunil got marks in 3 subjects in the ratio of 2 : 3 : 4. If he scores 15%, 10% and 15% more in next exam in respective subjects, find the new ratio of marks.

Correct Answer: (a) 23 : 33 : 46
Solution:

Sunil scored marks in the ratio of 2 : 3 : 4

Let's assume common multiplication constant be X

∴ Sunil got 2X, 3X and 4X marks in 3 subjects.

When he scored 15%, 10% and 15% more marks in next exam in respective subjects.

New marks in 1st subject = 2X + 2X × (15/100)

= 2.3X

New marks in 2nd subject = 3X + 3X × (10/100)

= 3.3X

New marks in 3rd subject = 4X + 4X × (15/100)

= 4.6X

∴ Ratio of new marks-

= 2.3X : 3.3X : 4.6X

23 : 33 : 46

∴ Required answer is 23 : 33 : 46.

43. In an apple garden, the number of apples is 1700, 10% of them are rotten. Remaining apples are put into the basket in the ratio of 4 : 5 : 6. find the number of apples in the smallest basket.

Correct Answer: (b) 408
Solution:

Total number of apples = 1700
⇒ Remaining apples = 1700 × 90/100 = 1530
⇒ Number of apples in smaller basket = 1530 × 4/15
= 408

44. The ratio of male to female employees in a company is 7 : 8. If 20% male and 30% female employees were reduced in July. Find the new ratio of male to female employees.

Correct Answer: (a) 1 : 1
Solution:

Ratio of male to female employees in a company is 7 : 8

Let's assume common multiplication constant be k

∴ Number of male employees = 7k
Number of female employees = 8k

When 20% male employees were reduced, new number will be 0.8 × 7k = 5.6k

& Number of female employees = 8k

When 30% female employees were reduced, new number will be 0.7 × 8k

∴ New number of female employees = 5.6k

∴ New ratios of male to female employees
= 5.6k : 5.6k = 1 : 1

∴ New ratio of male to female employees is 1 : 1

45. A invest 80% of his income on mutual fund, real estate and insurance in the ratio of 3 : 5 : 7 respectively. Find his saving to his total income in investment on the mutual fund is Rs. 24,000.

Correct Answer: (a) 1 : 5
Solution:

A invests 80% of his income on mutual fund, real estate and insurance in the ratio of 3 : 5 : 7 respectively.

Let the income of A be Rs 'x', then investment = 0.8x
and saving = 0.2x

3/15 × 0.8x = 24000

x = 24000 × 5/0.8

x = Rs. 1,50,000

∴ saving = 0.2x = 1,50,000 × 0.2 = Rs. 30,000

Reqd ratio = 30000 : 150000 = 1 : 5

46. The sum of three numbers is 98. If the ratio of the first to second is 2:3 and that of second to the third is 5 : 8 then the second number is?

Correct Answer: (b) 30
Solution:

a : b = 2 : 3
b : c = 5 : 8

a : b : c ⇒ 2×5 : 5×3 : 8×3

a : b : c = 10 : 15 : 24

a + b + c = 98

49k = 98

Therefore, k = 2

b = 15 × 2 = 30

47. Rs. 73689 are divided between A and B in the ratio 4:7. What is the difference between thrice the share of A and twice the share of B?

Correct Answer: (e) Rs. 13398
Solution:

2 × share of B − 3 × share of A

= 2 × 7/11 − 3 × 4/11

= 14/11 − 12/11 = 2/11

2/11 × 73689 = 6699 × 2 = 13398

48. The total number of students in a school is 31700. If the ratio of boys to the girls in the school is 743:842 respectively, what is the total number of girls in the school?

Correct Answer: (e) None of these
Solution:

Boys : Girls = 743 : 842

Total number of students = 31700

Number of girls = [842 / (743 + 842)] × 31700

= (842 / 1585) × 31700

= 16840

49. Direction (49-51): Study the following information and answer the questions that follows:

A sum of Rs. 10,980 is to be divided amongst A, B and C in the ratio 7:3:5 respectively.

How much is C’s share?

Correct Answer: (d) Rs. 3,660
Solution:

C's share = (5 / 15) × 10980 = Rs. 3660

50. What is the sum of B’s and C’s share?

Correct Answer: (e) Rs. 5,856
Solution:

(B + C)'s share = [(3 + 5) / 15] × 10980

= (8 / 15) × 10980 = Rs. 5856
